Get Motivated to Complete that Task

Get Motivated to Complete the Task

When you have your own business, you decide when you work and when you don’t. You make the decisions. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s hard to be motivated to take action. Even when you want to!

Before you worry that there is something wrong with you, know that you’re not alone. Everyone gets this way. Even the most productive people out there sometimes need help getting motivated. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’ll find there are times that even you though you want to accomplish a task, you can’t find the motivation to do it.

The good news is that there are many things you can do to get out of this feeling. You can be back to accomplishing things in no time. Here are some ways that you can get your motivation back – or at least still accomplish what you want, even if you don’t have as much motivation as usual.

Decide to Start Over

Every January 1st, tons of people make resolutions and new commitments. There’s nothing wrong with doing that on any day though. If you think about it, when people make these resolutions, at least at first they have a lot more energy and motivation to get things done. There’s no rule that you can only do this in the beginning of the year. You can decide to “start over” on any day you want. It will give you a rush of energy and give you more motivation to do whatever it is you want to do.

Grab Some Chocolate

It’s not like most of us need another excuse to eat chocolate, but hear me out. If you’re feeling a lack of motivation, try having a small piece of chocolate. There have been many studies on chocolate, and it does benefit the brain. It stimulates the secretion of dopamine, which raises your heart rate and boosts motivation.

It even has a small antidepressant effect since the stimulants encourage your brain to promote happy feelings. It’s something that only takes a few seconds to do, but can give you that jolt you need to start getting a task done.

Give Yourself Five Minutes

Sometimes you just need a break. Take five minutes and get a drink or a small snack. Take a walk around the block. Read a few pages of a book you’re in the middle of. Do anything that takes your mind off of work. This might be enough to get you back into the mood to work. That five minute break can get you motivated to work again once it’s over and you’ve had time to focus on something else for a few minutes.

Listen to Motivating Music

It’s amazing how much a simple song can change your mood. It can change your mindset as well! If you create a motivating playlist, it might help you get into the swing of things and want to get work done. For some people, it will be a list of instrumental pieces that are in the background and help you concentrate better. For others, it’ll be a list of their favorite songs. It doesn’t matter what the music actually is. What matters is that when you listen to it, it gets you motivated, and helps you start working.

Not sure yet what type of music will motivate you? Create a few small playlists. Try one with some of your favorite songs. Try another one that’s soft and soothing. See what happens when you work while listening to them. Hopefully one of them will help you get motivated and get more accomplished!

Do Something Else that’s Still Accomplishing Something

Sometimes you just can’t get motivated to do a specific task. That’s ok, it happens to everyone. Take a few minutes and do something else that is still accomplishing something. It can be another task for your business or it can be getting the laundry done. It really doesn’t matter what. You’ll still be getting something done, so you aren’t wasting the time. After you do finish the other task, then go back to the one you couldn’t get motivated for. By accomplishing something else, it might help you stay motivated to get this task done now as well.

Figure out Why You Aren’t Motivated

If you can’t get yourself to do a task no matter how much you want to, try to figure out why. Are you avoiding the task because you’re overwhelmed with it? If that’s the case, break it down into smaller tasks and try again. Are you avoiding it because you don’t want to do it? Figure out why. Can you get out of doing the task by outsourcing it? Do you really need to get this task done at all? Maybe you don’t have to do it. Are you hungry or thirsty? That can make it hard to get work done. If that’s the case, try a simple snack or drink will get you back on track.

The point is to spend a few minutes to think about why it is you aren’t motivated in the first place. Often there is something you can do about it.

Remember Why You Needed To Be Motivated In The First Place

If you decide that the task is indeed something that you should do, there’s a reason that you want to do it. You’re obviously not doing it for fun. Why is it that you want to accomplish it? When you think about the reasons why, you should be able to then get the motivation to accomplish the task. Of course, this is only if the reason is strong in the first place.

What motivates you to accomplish your goals? If you want to make sure you have the motivation, make sure your reasons are compelling and passionate. When you lack motivation, think about why it is you want to accomplish the task in the first place. If you really want to accomplish a task, you can find a way to get motivated enough to do so.

Enjoy,
