Don’t Listen to the Naysayers in Your Life

Don't Listen To The Naysayers

If you have your own business, or are just starting one, be careful of the naysayers in your life. These are the people that will say you can’t do it. They’ll tell you it’s impossible to make money online. They’ll say that you don’t have the knowledge. They’re the ones who every time you share an idea with them, they’ll be against it, saying it’s not good enough.

They’ll tell you that it’s all available for free, so why would someone pay for it? They’ll say it’s all a scam, or that no one makes enough money online to pay for a vacation, or to pay their bills. They’ll tell you that the people who say that they earn a full living online are lying. You won’t believe the things they’ll say.

I’m going to tell you a story. 15 years ago, I wanted to create a membership site. It was either the first product I had created, or one of the first. I didn’t know much about the niche I had chosen, so I hired someone who knew a lot about it to create the main product for me.

I still did a lot of work for it. I created a sales page, the membership site, great content to be added every month, and more. I was really proud of it. What’s even more awesome is that I had people in it! They had signed up, paid for it, and had stayed month after month because they liked the content. I started making consistent money from it, and even though it wasn’t a lot yet (the site was only a few months old), it was exciting.

Then, the naysayer in my life started talking to me. They said how it wasn’t right that I was charging people every month. He said that they signed up, but didn’t deserve to be charged every single month. They said that they could find the same information I was selling them in books, or on other websites and I shouldn’t be selling it. This person went on and on about it for so long, that I finally shut it down. I stopped their subscriptions, stopped promoting the product, and even took the website down.

Now, many years later, I look back and shake my head. I can’t believe I listened to the naysayer. It was very clear when the person signed up that it was a membership site. They knew they would get charged each month, and would also receive awesome content each month. It wasn’t hidden anywhere. It was very clear what they were getting. I’m all about being upfront and honest. The other comments were ridiculous as well. There’s lots of information available in books and on the internet. Mine was different than the others. The people who had signed up obviously enjoyed it, since they didn’t cancel.

Today, I wouldn’t listen to the naysayer. But that’s easy for me to say now. I know it’s not easy when someone is telling you why everything you’re doing is wrong. The truth is that when you are trying to make money online, there will always be someone out there that is against it.

These people have their own reasons for saying this, and it has nothing to do with you. Here are some of the reasons they have, and how you can try to turn it around.

They Don’t Understand It

Even though the internet has been around for a long time now, some people still don’t get it. They don’t see how you can make money from it. They see that you’re typing on a computer, laptop, or phone and are making money. It doesn’t make sense to them at all.

If this is the case, try to explain what you’re doing. Tell them what you’re doing for your audience. Are your teaching your audience something? Are you helping them with something? Try to put it into simple terms so that they’ll understand. If you can, use an example that has nothing to do with the internet. It’s possible that they don’t understand how it’s possible and that’s why they’re trying to stop you.

They’re Jealous and Don’t Want to Be Left Out

Sometimes people don’t want you to better yourself. It has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them. They wish it was them that was making money online. Instead of asking you how to do it, they say things to try to get you to stop. They don’t want to be left out, and instead try to not let you grow and build a business.

Unfortunately, there really isn’t much you can do if this is the case. You can try to offer to help them make money online. You can tell them you’ll show them where they can learn how if they want to. But other then that, you should ignore the things the person says.

They Think They’re Protecting You

Someone could be trying to protect you when they tell you not to do something with your online business. They might truly think it’s a scam. They might believe that it’s impossible, and don’t want you to get hurt. They may also think that you’ll get in trouble for making money online.

Of course it’s not rational, but it can be a reason. If this is the case, the only thing you can do is try to explain that what you’re doing is legitimate, and that you’re helping people. If you want, you can offer to show them what you’re doing, and that you don’t need protection.

There will always be people that will be against your online business. You might never know what their reasons are, but it doesn’t matter. You can try to explain what you do, but you don’t have to. Having an online business is a wonderful way to earn a living. You shouldn’t have to explain yourself to anyone.

The best advice I can give you is that you shouldn’t let them get to you. I know it isn’t easy. Before you do anything, think about what it is they are questioning. If it’s one idea that you had, then yes, you can absolutely think about it and wonder if maybe it wasn’t a good idea. But if it’s someone that has something bad to say about everything with your online business, feel free to ignore it. You don’t need to listen to the naysayers in your life. You know what you’re doing, and know that having an online business in a wonderful thing. You know you’re helping a lot of people too!

Enjoy,
Jessica
