Don’t Multi-task (Tips to be More Productive – 27 of 30)

Don\'t Multitask

Sometimes it just seems easier to multi-task.

Maybe you want to talk on the phone while you’re working, or work while watching TV.

Or maybe you’re working on two different tasks that you need to get done today.

While it sounds like a great idea, the problem is that it’s not really multi-tasking. It’s really your mind going back and forth between two different activities. So you’re not doing both at the same time. And because your brain will need a little bit of time to remember what you had been doing before you switched to doing something else, the two tasks will end up taking even longer than if you had done them one at a time.

When you’re doing more than one thing at a time, you’re also more likely to make mistakes.

So even though it sounds like a great idea to do two things at once, try sticking to one task at a time…and see how much better that is for you!
